{"id":713,"date":"2019-12-09T14:57:36","date_gmt":"2019-12-09T14:57:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sba.bb\/websites\/rea\/?p=713"},"modified":"2019-12-09T14:57:36","modified_gmt":"2019-12-09T14:57:36","slug":"national-workplace-wellness-policy-for-barbados-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rea-ehi.com\/?p=713","title":{"rendered":"National Workplace Wellness Policy for Barbados 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-file\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sba.bb\/websites\/rea\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/National-Workplace-Wellness-Policy-for-Barbados-2019.pdf\">National-Workplace-Wellness-Policy-for-Barbados-2019<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/sba.bb\/websites\/rea\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/National-Workplace-Wellness-Policy-for-Barbados-2019.pdf\" class=\"wp-block-file__button\" download>Download<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A new initiative, rolled out\nto encourage health and wellness in workplaces across the island of Barbados,\nhas been recommended to all sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the \u201c<strong>National Workplace Wellness Policy for Barbados 2019<\/strong>\u201d,\nwhich was launched on 26<sup>th<\/sup> February 2019 at the Barbados Workers\u2019 Union\n(BWU) headquarters at Solidarity House, Harmony Hall, St. Michael. &nbsp;BWU General Secretary, Senator Toni Moore,\nacknowledging that the Union was proud of the initiative, commended it to\nGovernment ministries and departments as well as private sector companies,\nhealth NGOs and CARICOM neighbours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senior Assistant General\nSecretary, Orlando \u201cGabby\u201d Scott, in conveying a message by PAHO\u2019s\nRepresentative to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Dr. Godfrey Xuereb, said:\n\u201cTo achieve wellness, we must ensure that our worksites are conducive to a\nhealthy environment, not just with regards to air pollution, to ergonomic desks\nand to be free from physical hazards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut in a Barbados of 2020 where the main causes of disability and\nburden of disease is that from non-communicable diseases, we need to also look\nat our workplaces as having enabling environments for people to practise\nhealthy eating, be physically active, not be exposed to tobacco smoke and\nensure that they have a good work life balance to keep them mentally fit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pointing out that the benefits to employers was a productive workforce, he said: \u201cIf we don\u2019t stem the scourge of NCDs \u2013 especially diabetes and hypertension \u2013 we will soon have the most important resource in this country too sick to be productive.&nbsp; Unless we stem the rise of hypertension, and we can only do this through reducing our salt intake and being physically active, we will soon have the majority of our productive age group too ill to produce \u2013 be it through disabilities from stroke, be it from having to be on dialysis or from having lower limb amputations.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> SOURCE: <a href=\"https:\/\/labour.gov.bb\/all-urged-to-use-national-workplace-wellness-policy\/\">https:\/\/labour.gov.bb\/all-urged-to-use-national-workplace-wellness-policy\/<\/a> <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new initiative, rolled out to encourage health and wellness in workplaces across the island of Barbados, has been recommended to all sectors.
